North Temple

The North Temple Project Area (NT) was established in October 2011, with the goal of revitalizing the North Temple corridor and maximizing transit-oriented redevelopment opportunities. Salt Lake City and the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) recently completed the Airport TRAX light rail line connecting downtown and the Salt Lake City International Airport. The line runs through the NT Project Area along North Temple Street. This new transit asset provides an opportunity to revitalize the NT Project Area neighborhood into a vibrant, walkable, mixed-use community.

In 2010, Salt Lake City created the North Temple Boulevard Plan to guide land use decisions that would maximize transit investments for the community. The Plan provides urban renewal standards that focus on transit-oriented development, walkability, housing, density, sustainability and safety.

Shaped after the Boulevard Plan, the NT Project Area Plan will help to revitalize and improve the North Temple corridor by encouraging transit-oriented development, increasing density and housing options, and creating long term economic stability in the area.

One specific goal identified in the NT Project Area Plan is to redevelop the Folsom Corridor between 800 West and 1000 West, which will incorporate the daylighting of the flow of the City Creek Corridor. The development will include a pedestrian and bicycle pathway that will connect to the Jordan River. The RDA will also pursue environmental assessment activities in the formative years of the project to better characterize the health of the landscape and determine future potential development opportunities.

EPA Wide-Area Assessment Grant

Salt Lake City and the RDA submitted a grant request in the winter of 2011 to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), requesting funding for an assessment of the North Temple Project Area. The grant has been awarded and the assessment is currently. For more information on this project, go to the North Temple EPA Wide-Area Assessment page.
