Depot District
In an effort to
revitalize the area just west of downtown, the RDA
established the Depot District Project Area in 1998. In
step with the project area creation process, Salt Lake City
created the Gateway District Land Use & Development Master Plan
and the Gateway Specific Plan. Both plans focus on the
need to revitalize the west side of downtown and provide better
infrastructure, mixed-use developments and retail, as well as
preserve historic structures and reclaim open space.
One of the key
developments in the Depot District is The Gateway,
located between North Temple and 200 South, and 400 West and 500
West. The Agency provided a $16.5 million tax increment
reimbursement for the project as an incentive for The Gateway to
build a project near downtown that would provide unique shopping,
office and housing opportunities.
