West Capitol Hill

 

 

The West Capitol Hill Project Area was created in 1996 and will sunset in 2017. It includes a total of 88 acres of privately owned property, excluding streets. click here

 

As one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, West Capitol Hill is a mixed-use area with a strong historic residential element. The eastern portion of the project area between 200 and 300 West Streets, (excluding frontage along 300 West) is a residential area consisting of mostly low-density character with medium-density developments scattered throughout.

The area west of 300 West Street, due to the building of the railroad, developed with commercial and industrial uses, along with low density residential uses. Historically, this portion of the project area has been zoned for commercial and industrial uses, although there has been no extensive expansions of either use. In 1976, this area was rezoned, establishing for the first time a residential zone. Today, the northern half of the area west of 300 West Street is comprised of residential, commercial and industrial uses.
