The Gateway District AreaGateway District Revitalization is a comprehensive effort to break down barriers between the west and east sides of Salt Lake City by rejuvenating the 650-acre, blighted industrial district that currently divides it into a livable, mixed-use urban neighborhood. The Gateway district begins just three blocks west of Main Street, and yet it is plagued by environmental contamination, severe crime, and poor accessibility. view map We intend to re-weave east and west together with a nexus of transportation modes, transit-oriented development, a growing employment base, parks, and community-oriented facilities. Expanding the existing local, state, federal, and private partnerships within the district have enabled us to mobilize the community against crime, to remove twenty miles of excess rail lines, to shorten the three interstate highway viaduct ramps that currently restrict accessibility, and to clean up the contamination left from one hundred years of mining, rail and industrial uses.
